Shiatsu for Pregnancy

A course for bodywork or birth professionals, expectant mothers and their partners!

12 CEs

November 1 & 8

Wednesdays, 9am-4pm

Taught by Jeanne Phenany

Pregnancy is a time of dynamic change for a woman and her developing fetus. As the mother provides the necessary Essence, Ki and Blood energy to support the growth of her baby, the quality and flow of her own energy shifts, sometimes causing imbalances.  Shiatsu effectively addresses many of the issues associated with pregnancy such as morning sickness, heartburn, pre-eclampsia, lowback ache, bodily discomfort, fatigue, edema, and carpal tunnel, to name a few.

Whether you are a professional practitioner, an expectant mother or a partner, you will learn simple, effective shiatsu massage, acupressure, and stretching techniques for treating common discomforts of pregnancy.  You will also come to understand the changes occurring in a pregnant woman's body from the perspective of shiatsu meridian theory and Chinese Medicine.  No previous experience necessary!

This course will explore:

  • Effects of pregnancy on the 12 meridians and the Extraordianary Vessels
  • Common issues in pregnancy, treatment protocol and contraindications
  • The basics for providing a comfortable shiatsu session during each trimester to increase the flow and balance of energy to mother and baby.
  • Specific protocols for treating morning sickness, heartburn, pre-eclampsia, low back ache, general discomfort, fatigue, edema and carpal tunnel
