Acupuncture/Chinese Herb Treatmentswith Lok Kwan Cheng, L.Ac., Dipl. OM Integrating acupuncture, herbal, and bodywork therapies, Lok-Kwan offers Spirit-based medicine that mobilizes the energetics of the body to prevent and treat disease. 'Lok-Kwan' means 'happily serving the people', a reminder that we’re here to nourish each other as we discover ourselves. These therapies were taught by Daoist healers who were also some of the most important scholars and philosophers in the history of Chinese medicine. However, the approach is non-religious. It is done primarily with acupuncture and bodywork. These treatments are inspired by the teachings of contemporary Daoist Master Jeffery Yuen and in the case of Astrological Balancing, the work of Miki Shima. By Appointment Only Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 am - 7:00 pm Fee: $85 per treatment, $75 for Zen Shiatsu students Services: Spiritual Cleansing, Easing Transition, Fulfilling Destiny, Astrological Balancing |
Spiritual Cleansing guides the body/spirit through the four Stages of Refinement:
- Initiation
- Purification
- Rebirth
- Enlightenment
The result is a shift from a consciousness that gives rise to diseases to a consciousness that gives rise to health.
The procedure was taught by Jin Dynasty (1115-1234 CE) physician and alchemist Ma Dan-Yang and transmitted by contemporary Daoist Master Jeffrey Yuen. It makes use of Ma Dan-Yang’s Twelve Heavenly Star Points and body mudras. Orderly progression through the stages is marked by changes in the pulse and subjective experience. While Spiritual Cleansing promotes spiritual growth, it is especially helpful for medical conditions when all other treatments have failed.
Life is about movement and transition. Physically our skeletal structure takes us through space; emotionally we move through our experience via the medium of blood. There is a saying in Chinese medicine: "When there is no movement, there is pain; when there is movement, there is no pain."
Musculoskeletal inflammation and rigidity, developmental, menstrual or fertility problems are examples of “pain” or difficulty in moving through common life transitions. Understanding and treating these problems according to their meridian sensitivities restores the flow and eases the transition.
Easing Transition focuses on the use of special channels called the Luo and Divergent channels. Luo-Connecting channels affect blood; Divergent channels affect bones. If the Primary meridians are like the main highways of life these channels are like the side-roads and divergent paths. When the main highways are blocked we may need to venture on these roads in order to reach our destination.
We are all born with a set of 'givens': our ancestry, genetic make-up, ethnicity, gender, as well as cosmic and karmic configurations that together create our 'constitution'. These factors are difficult or impossible to change. They imply a unique curriculum for each life, challenges that the person will have to overcome before she or he can feel fulfilled. The choices we make when confronted by these challenges constitute our destiny.
If we do not understand our unique challenges we squander our energy fighting, denying, or avoiding them instead of fulfilling them. Our life becomes difficult. Oriental medicine can help us deal with these consititutional issues so we can experience fulfillment. Fulfilling Destiny focuses on the use of special channels that probe the constitutional level called the Eight Extraordinary Vessels. The goal is to seek a deeper understanding of our unique life challenges so that we can transcend them.
I Ching Acupuncture Treatment
Part of our constitution comes from the stars: the cosmic configuration at the time of our birth. While this is the proper domain of astrology, the I Ching, or Book of Changes, allows us to tap into its mystery.
In Astrological Balancing we consult the I Ching to arrive at a diagnosis and treatment. The result is a balancing of our life efforts in accordance with the cosmic forces.
